(KRON) -- A two-week operation to evict unhoused persons from the Wood Street encampment begins today, a city spokesperson confirmed to KRON4. Video: Car crashes into Oakland apartment The City of Oakland says that between 60 and 70 people are currently living on the parcel at Wood Street, but those numbers can change daily. Outreach teams began visiting the site back in April of 2022 to speak with residents individually and offer services such as housing options and employment support. Outreach teams are also working with residents at the encampment to determine which items they hope to keep, according to the official. Oakland will be offering shelter space at the Wood Street cabin program and a safe RV parking site on 66th Avenue. At this time, the city spokesperson says enough shelter should be available for everyone who wants it. (KRON) -- A juvenile male suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting Saturday in San Jose that left one person dead, the San Jose Police Department said. Officers responded to the incident near Keyes Street and South 3rd Street on a report of a shooting. 5-year-old girl killed in shooting on I-880 in Fremont: CHP Arriving at the scene, officers located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. An investigation led officers to a person of interest. (KRON) -- A former San Francisco 49ers star, Aldon Smith, will be spending the next several months behind bars in a San Mateo County jail. Smith, 33, of San Jose, began serving a 1-year jail sentence on Friday for a 2021 DUI crash. According to inmate records, the NFL player is incarcerated at Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. His projected release date is October 4, inmate records show. Smith's Blood Alcohol Content was 0.28 when he crashed his GMC Sierra pickup truck into another vehicle on the afternoon of Dec. 6, 2021, investigators said. NASCAR suspended Cup Series driver Cody Ware indefinitely on Monday after he was arrested on charges of assault on a female and assault by strangulation.The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in Statesville, North Carolina, indicated Ware’s bond was set at $3,000 after his arrest, according to NASCAR.com.Ware didn’t participate in weekend events at Bristol Motor Speedway with Rick Ware Racing, which is owned by the driver’s father.
