Bruins notebook: Oskar Steen earns another look

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:17:29 GMT

Oskar Steen is getting another chance in the National Hockey League – and he’s earned it.Steen enjoyed a solid training camp but, with the number of bottom six candidates, the 25-year-old AHL veteran was sent back to Providence after clearing waivers. But he did not pout about it, as so often happens with players who are close to making the cut but wind up getting sent down. He notched 3-2-5 in five games and was arguably Providence’s best forward. So with Milan Lucic on LTIR with a foot injury and Jakub Lauko out for at least week with an ugly eye injury, Steen got the call to come up, bumping Jesper Boqvist – the first call-up – out of the lineup for the B’s Saturday tilt against the Detroit Red Wings at the Garden.“He had a really good camp. He was playing fast and going to hard areas, playing inside the dots. It’s a real strength of his,” said coach Jim Montgomery. “Talking to the staff down in Providence, (head coach) Ryan Mougenel, he said that he’s...

DETROIT (AP) — Jeep maker Stellantis has reached a tentative contract agreement with the United Auto Workers union that follows a template set earlier this week by Ford, two people with knowledge of the negotiations said Saturday. The deal, which still has to be ratified by members, leaves only General Motors without a contract with the union. The agreement could end a six-week strike by more than 14,000 workers at Stellantis assembly plants in Michigan and Ohio, and at parts warehouses across the nation.Like workers at Ford, the strikers at Stellantis are expected to take down their picket lines and start returning to work in the coming days, before 43,000 union members vote. The people, who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the talks, said most of the main points of the deal at Ford will carry over to Stellantis. The Ford pact includes 25% in general wage increases over the next 4 1/2 years for top assembly plant workers, with 11% comi...

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Asa Hutchinson said Saturday that the campaign manager for his beleaguered bid for the Republican presidential nomination is departing, but the former Arkansas governor said he is not dropping out of the crowded race.Hutchinson confirmed that Rob Burgess will leave on Oct. 31, and the candidate said he planned other changes to his campaign. Hutchinson, who entered the 2024 race in April, has struggled to make in-roads as an anti-Donald Trump candidate. He failed to qualify for the party’s second debate and seems unlikely to make the third, on Nov. 8, when participants must meet the most stringent requirements yet.“Clearly I am working hard to win votes and to increase my voting percentages, particularly in the early states,” Hutchinson told The Associated Press. “It’s not unusual for a campaign to have a midcourse adjustment and that’s what you’ll be seeing here with Rob’s departure and with readjustments that we’ll make i...

You’ll never guess what a Kit Kat 'piece' is actually called

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:17:29 GMT

(NEXSTAR) – The lyrics to the decades-old Kit Kat jingle would suggest that each individual chocolate-covered Kit Kat wafer is known as a “piece.”But strictly speaking, that’s not the official term.“The standard bars consist of four pieces, called fingers, and each finger can be snapped from the bar as an individual piece,” the Hershey Company writes of Kit Kat on the brand’s official website.Though it may seem like an interesting choice, the term “finger” isn’t an altogether uncommon term for a rectangular or oblong treat. Ladyfingers, for instance, are a common ingredient in cakes or tiramisu, and the Keebler Company has long produced a brand of sandwich cookie known as Vienna Fingers. Even some companies that produce shortbread cookies or snack cakes call their products “fingers.” McDonald’s getting rid of signature utensil as part of ‘sustainable makeover’ What’s more unique about Kit Kat, however, is that “finger” rarely appears in the bar’s marketing materials or packaging.E...
